Southport Muto Aikido Club is the only Aikido club in the immediate area.
In Southport we practice the Iwama style of Aikido which is the style that was taught at the Iwama Dojo in Japan by the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba. This lineage was passed on through Morihiro Saito who was given responsibility for the Iwama Dojo by Ueshiba.
Simon, the club’s instructor was taught his Aikido formerly, by Shihan Ralph Reynolds of the Aikido Fellowship (Shihan Reynolds was one of the first people in the UK to learn Aikido at ’The Hut’ in Cambridge) and latterly, by Sensei Roger Tabberer, of the West Midlands Aikido Association, who studied as an uchi dechi (live-in student) with Saito Sensei. Shihan Reynolds has sadly passed away and Tabberrer Sensei has now retired from teaching Aikido.
Southport Muto Aikido Club is affiliated to the West Midlands Aikido Association, is part of the Aikido Research Federation (ARF) and is registered with the British Aikido Board (BAB).
