Traditional Aikido
in Southport.
New students are very warmly welcomed and are quickly integrated into the school.
What is Aikido
The way of harmony with energy.
Aikido is a Japanese martial art that resolves conflict by redirecting an attacker's force rather than meeting it head-on. There are no tournaments. There is no winning or losing. There is only practice.
At Zenreikan Southport we train in the classical Aikikai tradition as part of the North West Aikikai. As much as a martial art, Aikido is a holistic study: both the love of the art and deep friendships are built into the ethos of our practice.
More about our dojo“A thousand days of training to develop, ten thousand days of training to polish. You must examine all this well.”

Beginners welcome
You don't need to be fit, flexible, or fearless.
The first level of progress includes a range of basic movements that can be learned relatively quickly. Early gradings bring new Aikidoka closer to the student group. After that, and with a little hard work, there is plenty of time to develop at your own pace.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothes. We train barefoot.
- Come along, watch a class, or step onto the mat
- Tuesday & Thursday · 7:00pm · see Schedule for venues

The best way to understand Aikido is to step on the mat.
Pick a class that suits you, send us a quick message so we know to expect you, and come along. We'll take care of the rest.
